Abstract
Observations of greenhouse gas emissions are critical to monitor the state of the
atmosphere, quantify present and historical emissions, and understand global climate
change. Observation Package (ObsPack) is a specific format to deliver atmospheric
measurements data of trace gasses (Masarie, Peters, Jacobson, & Tans, 2014).
However, processing ObsPack products (i.e. GLOBALVIEW) and selecting specific
observations for modeling purposes can be cumbersome, as they generally contain
hundreds of files. Hence, we developed an open-source R package “robspack” to read,
process and plot NOAA/GML ObsPack products. We used an CH4 ObsPack as an
example in our code. But it can be easily modified to process ObsPack products for
other greenhouse gasses.
