Abstract

A laminar gas inlet was developed for aircraft-based sampling of condensable vapors (Yang et al., 2024).  New gas phase measurements of H2SO4 were conducted in a high-speed wind tunnel. The gas transmission efficiency of H2SO4 through different sampling lines was measured using CIMS, and the experimental results are being compared to simulations of flow and mass diffusion modelling in the sampling line. Both experimental data and simulation results show the gas transmission efficiency increases with an increased sampling flow rate, including turbulent flow. These results question the widely spread assumption that laminar core sampling is the best strategy for sampling condensable vapors.
