Abstract

During March 20-28, 2025, the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) will host Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) 2025, which is the annual international gathering of the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) that convenes Arctic researchers, Indigenous Peoples, decisionmakers, and research partners from around the world to discuss the state of international Arctic research. ASSW 2025 will center around the Fourth International Conference for Arctic Research Planning (ICARP IV), which will discuss international Arctic research priorities and needs for the next decade. The ICARP IV process will develop a 10-year international Arctic research plan with a vision for implementation and targeted science plans to be implemented by IASC members nations and a board spectrum of international partners. The ICARP IV Summit will serve as a key milestone for advancing longer-term planning for the fifth International Polar Year (IPY) in 2032-33 by providing a long-term framework for discussing the wellbeing of Arctic peoples, improving Arctic observing and our understanding of the Arctic in the global system, advancing the stewardship of Arctic environments, and strengthening national and regional security. CU Boulder’s hosting of this pivotal conference will create an equitable and inclusive gathering for research consultation among the leading scientific, academic, environmental, Indigenous and political organizations currently concerned with Arctic issues. This event will also provide unique opportunities to engage policy makers, early career researchers, educators, the media, and the public.
