Abstract
The North Central Regional Invasive Species and Climate Change (NC RISCC, Est. 2021) Network brings together researchers and land managers to address the intersecting challenges of invasive species and climate change. Integrated into a larger RISCC Network that includes six additional regional groups, our mission is to support science-informed decision making by synthesizing, producing, and communicating science on invasive species and climate change. We aim to make this intersection accessible to the research and management community by:
- Fostering collaboration through workshops and webinars
- Summarizing relevant existing research and conducting new research on invasion ecology, climate change, and land management practices
- Highlighting practical analytical web tools such to support decision making
Through these efforts, we are working to better understand and address three main research questions:
1) What species and ecosystems are most threatened by invasive species in the NC region?
2) What invasive species will be most important to manage in a changing climate in the region and what are the most effective management strategies?
3) How do wildfire, climate, and invasive plants interact, and what is the potential for ecological transformation?
Our network consists of 150+ members representing 62 different organizations. We welcome new collaborators and perspectives as we grow the NC RISCC Network. Join our listserv to hear more about upcoming opportunities by emailing nc_riscc@colorado.edu.
