Abstract
The NCEI Solar and Terrestrial Physics (STP) Group has published a new composite solar flare report data product covering 1995 to the present time. Since the 1970s, X-Ray Sensor (XRS) instruments on GOES satellites have monitored two bands of soft X-Rays, provided the operational measurements that define the solar flare class, and been used for forecasting space weather events. The new flare report is a composite of unique flares from XRS data from GOES 8-19. It includes flare timing, magnitudes, and locations on the solar disk determined from GOES XRS, as well as flare locations (from ground-based observatories) and active region numbers provided by the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). The composite flare report will be expanded later this year to include 1975 â present (GOES 1-19).
