ADM-06. Data Puzzles - Analyzing authentic data with inquiry-based instructional practices

Abstract
Teachers across the country have expressed a desire to incorporate authentic scientific data into their curricula, but struggle to find accessible and meaningful datasets that can be easily integrated into modern teaching practices (e.g., inquiry-based learning). In response to this problem, CIRES scientists and education and outreach associates have collaborated to create "Data Puzzles", a free resource that utilizes four research-backed instructional practices as outlined by Ambitious Science Teaching to engage students in data analysis in the context of important and relevant scientific research. In this poster, we present one Data Puzzle resource co-designed with CIRES atmospheric scientists Gina Jozef and Gijs de Boer in the hopes that we can inspire other CIRES scientists to join this effort!
