What tracking systems does the CI have in place for publications, property, and intellectual property records? What are the obstacles to successfully implementing such a system?
Publication Tracking
In order to achieve the goal of tracking all CIRES / CIESRDS publications and getting the correct publications into the NOAA Institutional Repository, CIRES utilizes a University of Colorado system called CU Boulder Elements (CUBE).This system receives data from multiple publication data sources and automatically links them to CU Researchers via OrchID. It also allows manually adding of publications via DOIs or manual entry methods.
CIRES downloads this data nightly and processes it into our internal databases. This data is then used for multiple purposes:
- CIRES Publication Database
- Provides Management of all downloaded and processed publications, including editing and linking to new authors
 - Creates reports of Publications using multiple filters including Publications Year, Vetting Status, Author Name, DOI Status, Cooperative Agreement Association, Lead Author Group (CIRES, NOAA, other)
 - Allows for imports directly from Web-of-Science as a backup to CU Elements
 - CIRES Communications uses this data to verify all CA related publications have been loaded to the NOAA Institutional Repository on an annual basis
 - Example

 - My Publications - Example
 - Annual Summary of Accomplishments (ASA) Publications
- Employee Annual Review - Example

 - CIRES Website Publication Display
- Publications Search - https://cires.colorado.edu/publications
 - Individual Researcher Publications - Example: https://cires.colorado.edu/people/waleed-abdalati#publications

Below is a flow chart of how our publications are tracked, stored and how we verify that the correct publications are entered into the NOAA Institutional Repository.
