High-Resolution Climate Modeling in Northern Great Plains

High-Resolution Climate Modeling in the Northern Great Plains

This is a one and a half day, invitation only, workshop focused on the development and applications of fine-scale dynamical climate modeling to produce robust and usable climate projections for the northern Great Plains region. In particular, how these projections can help with ecological impacts modeling and inform socio-ecological adaptation projects. The workshop will assess current tools and methods, identify gaps in the science and in the usability of the science for socio-ecological applications. Other important issues that will get discussed include: model biases and need for further bias correction; physical processes important for simulating the mean and extreme character of climate in the northern Great Plains region; treatment of uncertainty; and appropriate design of RCM experiments. The participants will include modelers, expert users of data for ecological applications, as well as experts familiar with climate risks in the region.

This workshop is funded by a grant from DOI's North Central Climate Science Center
